Animal | Los Angeles
In an unmarked building on Fairfax lies this gem of a restaurant. Animal had been on my places to try for the longest time and it lived up to the hype. I've been into "American (New)" restaurants in which a lot of dishes served are more uncommon and have a modern twist to them. Like some other places I've tried (here), I'm a fan of small plates and that was how the set-up was here. It's recommended two dishes per person, which are meant to be shared. Pictured from top to bottom, we went with the Chicken Liver Toast, Hamachi Tostada, Pork Belly Sliders, Bone Marrow, Crispy Pig Ears (topped with a fried egg), Fried Sweetbreads, Oxtail Poutine, Quail, and Sorbet for dessert. I actually really loved all the things I ordered with the exception of the quail which I personally feel is just too hard to eat. The dishes that stood out the most to me were the Chicken Liver Toast, Hamachi Tostada, and Oxtail Poutine. Every bite was super flavorful with fresh ingredients and hints of citrus in most dishes. Def a must try!
